The outline was that the British had a wagon train that had to go the whole length of the table, hotly pressed by the French.

The British started and moved off down the road - the escort battalion split in too two and a company of the 60th leading in the vanguard . The French diced to see if they came onto the table: nothing!! Meanwhile the messages to the British camp did not get through.

Next Simon decided to chivvy the column along and gave orders to the effect and for the head of the column to deploy on either side of the road. The French then divide to arrive en mass, with the Blue Hussars on the road they barrelled down to pounce on the supply column! The rear detachment of the 9th about faced and blew the head of the Hussars with a well timed volley that stopped them in their tracks. The rest of the French steadily marched on.

With the fright of the French on their heels the wagons suddenly bolted down the road with the rear-guard close behind. With the 60th waiting in the trees to the left and the rest of the 9th deployed to the right  the 1st KGL Hussars had come out of the camp to help cover the withdrawal.

The French messages from their CO to the battalions where cruelly cut down by the rifles of the 60th so the order to charge was never received.

The British retired in good order, with no losses and the supplies safe. And all the French could do was curse at an opportunity missed in dealing his Grace a severe blow, and head home with a bloody nose...
