Pegasus Bridge

Bolt Action

13:00 - 18:00 (Free)

Due to the popularity of last years event Simon Kennedy is back for the attack on Normandy.

One of the most critical moments of the attack in June 1944 in Normandy was the British Paratrooper capture of Pegasus bridge. It was essential as this would have allowed the German Armour to counter attack.
Despite tenacious German defense the Paratroopers fought doggedly later reinforced by by British Commandos. The Commandos were lead by Lord Loveat accompanied by his piper Bill Millen who while under German fire piped his way fearlessly across the bridge during the British commando attack. For both sides this bridge was essential on D- Day.

“On the one road from Mons to the Marne” - August 23rd 1914

Saturday 21st and Sunday 2nd of June from 12:00 on into the day

otherirish.jpg

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War 1in which many thousands of Irishmen both North and South gave their lives. The Gathering Gaming Club from Limerick and the Wee Gamers from Belfast have come together to re-enact this the first action of the great war in a public participation game.

1st-battalion-irish-guards-l.jpg

The Battle of Mons was the first contact between the British Expeditionary Force and the German Imperial Army. This action and the following retreat culminates in the Battle of Mons. This has gone down in the annals of military history. A history in which the following regiments took part;
2nd Munster fusiliers, 2nd Connacht Rangers,  1st Irish Royal Guards, 2nd Royal Irish Regiment, 2nd Royal Irish Rifles, 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers, 2nd Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 2nd Iniskillen Fusiliers, 5th Royal Irish Lances, 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, 6th Iniskillen Dragoons, North Irish Horse and the South Irish Horse.

Most of these units played a prominent role with other British army regiments I halting the German army at Mons and providing the rear guard in the retreat that followed.
This public participation game will focus on the Battle of Mons itself and several of the action that’s followed. This is sure to be pleasing to the eye as a scale model of the battlefield is being reproduced by

The Gathering Games Club while models of both sides are being painted by the Gathering and the Wee Gamers.

We would like to encourage everyone to try this game and take a chance to immerse yourself in a great game and a shared history.
