Historical wargaming has been a mainstay in The Gathering & Limerick for over 20 years. From the simpler, faster games like Bolt Action & DBA; to the sweeping epics of the likes of Field of Glory, DBMM or Age of Reason. They can take place on land; at sea; or in the air! Limerick has a rich history of warfare - as it's motto attests - A City Well Schooled In The Arts Of War - & you'll always find someone in Limerick to give battle on any scale, & Conclave 2018 will be the perfect place to indulge this!
L'Art De La Guerre - Conclave Championship
SATURDAY 23RD & sUNDAY 24TH JUNE

The Munster Wargames Group, in conjunction with The Gathering, are organising an Art De La Guerre (ADLG) competition at Conclave 2018.
ADLG is a popular set of rules for the Ancients gaming period. Developed in France and based on some of the concepts popularised by the DBX systems, the rules have been in use for some time in other countries. Actively supported by the rules author and now in their 3rd Edition the Rule Book provides everything you need to play the game for a price less than €40.
The competition is the standard format for ADLG, approximately 20 to 25 units on a 180cm by 120cm table. Games take approximately 2 ½ hours.
The competition will consist of 5 rounds, three games on Saturday and two games on Sunday. The timetable is:
- Round One – 9.30 to 12.00
- Round Two - 1.00 to 3.30
- Round Three - 4.00 to 6.30
- Round Four – 10.00 to 12.30
- Round Five 1.30 to 4.00
- 4.15 prize-giving
Armies are to be chosen from the Ancient, Classical and Roman sections of the Book. This will give a choice from 124 historical armies.
The entry fee is €30 for the weekend, which also covers your weekend entry to the convention. Munster Wargames Group are happy to make armies available for loan if you want to try your hand at the game & just to add that one-day only participants also welcome. Just email the contact on the page.

Bolt Action Demos & Participation Games
Scenario 1: Tank War - "The Invasion of France" : Germans vs French/British - 125 years after Waterloo the 12th Cuirassier Regiment advances to Belgium, swapping their horses for new mounts Somau S35 & AMD 178, their sabres for 47mm Anti tank guns & 20mm autocannon.
Scenario 1: - "Paras over the Border": In this fictional scenario a force of German Fallschirmjager, after completing a mission to destroy vital resources in the North of Ireland, have been cut off from their extraction point & unknowingly have crossed the border into the Republic of Ireland, persued vigourously by British Forces. This Scenario involves: German Fallschirmjager; British Army; & the Army of the Irish Free State (as well as the possiblility of some local guerillas joining the fight!)
SCA - The Society for Creative Anachronism
The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our “Known World” consists of 20 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more.
The Limerick lads have been regulars over the last few years & bring a mix of Medieval & Renaissance culture & combat exhibitions to Conclave 2018. They never fail to impress with their displays!
